FCA Hosts Staff Training on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support

Today, FCA held a comprehensive training session for its staff focused on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in education settings. The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of FCA personnel to integrate psychosocial well-being into their day-to-day engagement with learners, educators, and communities.
The session was facilitated by Saara Turunen, FCA’s Regional Education Specialist, and Maureen Achieng, a licensed psychosocial counselor. Drawing from FCA’s official Guidance Note on MHPSS in Education, they guided participants through interactive activities, group discussions, and practical exercises to build a deeper understanding of psychosocial resilience and inclusive support strategies.
The key topics explored during the session included the MHPSS Pyramid, which outlines FCA’s three-tiered support framework—from basic services to focused, non-specialised interventions; the FCA Well-being Flower, offering a holistic perspective on the seven dimensions of well-being; the critical role of teacher and staff well-being as the cornerstone of a nurturing educational environment; and practical approaches for fostering psychosocial resilience among educators working in crisis-affected contexts.
Participants also took part in “Resilience Circles,” where they shared personal experiences and coping strategies. The session highlighted how education itself can act as a vital form of MHPSS, offering stability, routine, and emotional support.
